Pauline Ryan, Managing Director of Norfolk Conveyancing
My career in real estate began in 1975, initially in property management and conveyancing, then moving into sales. I obtained my Real Estate Agent’s licence in 1978 and immediately formed a partnership in a real estate and settlement agency. After a few years in sales, I decided to leave selling to the people who are best at it and to concentrate on settlements. Having real estate experience has been of great benefit to me as a conveyancer – knowing what it’s like on the other side of the fence, so to speak, which helps to understand the entire process and work towards bringing the whole transaction to a smooth conclusion.
I obtained my Settlement Agent’s Licence in 1982, when the Settlement Agents Act was first proclaimed. My experience over the years has covered virtually every type of transaction from simple property transfers to large subdivisions, strata title dealings and commercial and rural transactions.
Needing a change of direction, I withdrew from that partnership in 1995, and bought the established business of Norfolk Conveyancing (known at the time as Norfolk Settlements). Over the years I have resisted growing the business beyond the point where the personal relationship with clients is lost. There are enough ‘production line’ agencies around and we have no desire to become one of them!
